There are big things in store for Suffolk, one of Hampton Roads' fastest-growing communities and an attractive place to live and work. Suffolk has a strong economy and safe environment. The community is dedicated to quality education, and is rich in history and recreation.
When the cities of Suffolk and Nansemond merged in 1974, Suffolk grew overnight from a small town of two square miles to the state's largest city of 430 square miles -- half the size of Rhode Island. And the region's population is projected to more than double over the next 20 years. That growth is also seen in increasing income levels.
Suffolk provides a well-rounded curriculum, with 12 elementary schools, four middle schools and three high schools. There are two community colleges serving Suffolk. Paul D. Camp offers occupational, technical and college transfer tracks, with associate's degrees in the arts and sciences, and certificates in law enforcement and data processing. Tidewater Community College offers associate's degrees in 80 programs as well as customized training programs.
